Paradise Lake
Paradise Lake is open for use to the public daily from 5am to 9 pm. The lake is closed on Wednesdays. Boating season runs from the last Saturday in April to November 15th. Fishing is permitted year around from the shore in Winter Designation Areas.

Save a Can / Buy a Fish
Paradise Lake offers excellent fishing for the angling enthusiast.  Several fish species inhabit the waters.  These species include:

Rainbow Trout and German Browns which range in size from 1-8 lbs. These beautiful fish can be caught using Spoons, Spinners, Kastmasters and Trolling Gear using flashers and night crawlers.  A 16lb lake record is held by Randy Smith for bringing in a German Brown in 1987.

Small and Large Mouth Bass are abundant in this reservoir. The largest Small Mouth caught was approximately 8.5lbs and the largest Large Mouth was 16.9lbs.  These Black Bass species are best caught using  4.5" plastic worms on 6 lb. test and various top water baits.

Blue Gill are best caught on Paradise Lake using small live crawdads and night crawlers.  These fish have been caught up to 2.5 lbs.

Channel Catfish/Blue Catfish inhabit the reservoir and have been caught up to 25 lbs. The average is 2-4lbs.  They are best caught using fresh chicken livers and  live crawdads.

Since Paradise Lake is a source of drinking water we ask that you do not use stink baits or gut baits. These are baits that have been allowed to rot in order to attract a strong scent. They pollute the water.  Live minnows are also prohibited.

Save a Can/Buy a Fish - This recycling program promotes recycling while helping to increase the fish habitat at Paradise Lake.  Aluminum can containers are located in several areas throughout the lake including the parking lot and picnic area.  For larger donations, bags of cans can be recycled at Waste Management on American Way, or dropped off at the Lake Patrol residence at the Lake located at 6853 Lucretia Road or the District office. All proceeds from this program go strictly towards buying trout for Paradise Lake.

Water Storage
Paradise Lake is one of two reservoirs which stores water for our community.  It is a source of public water supply therefore it is strictly regulated.   It covers an area of   244 acres and is surrounded by  beautiful wooded land and has a shoreline of 7.5 miles. It's function is to store raw water for our community of Paradise.  It holds approximately 11,500 acre feet of water.  It is our only reservoir that allows fishing and recreation.  Magalia Reservoir is located on Little Butte Creek downstream from  Paradise Lake and does not allow fishing or recreation.  Paradise Dam separates the two reservoirs.

Paradise Dam
Paradise Dam, which creates Paradise Lake,  was originally constructed in 1956.  It is  approximately 4 miles north of Magalia on Little Butte Creek.  The dam was originally 140 feet high and was raised an additional 26.5 ft in 1976. For more information please follow these links.
